I've
received my registration number. Now what?
- Launch Caliban Mailer.
- Single-click the small Caliban
Computing logo in the upper-left corner of the Caliban Mailer window
(on the title bar). This will show the system menu, from where you
will select the "About Caliban Mailer..." option.
- In the About Caliban Mailer
dialog, click the "Registration" button. The
"Registration Information" dialog will appear.
- Enter your name and company name,
if desired, and enter the security code. Click
OK.
- Back at the About box, click OK
once again. Close Caliban Mailer by clicking the Exit button, then
restart Caliban Mailer.
You must restart Caliban Mailer to complete
the process!
Be sure to keep a copy of your security code
in a safe place, as it will be required if you have to reinstall or
upgrade Caliban
Mailer.
I've
upgraded, but the splash window and title bar still show version 1.10. How
do I find out the full version number?
You can view the full version number in the About box.
To see the About box, single-click the small Caliban
Computing logo in the upper-left corner of the Caliban Mailer window
(on the title bar). This will show the system menu, from where you
will select the "About Caliban Mailer..." option.
Can I
use my database from version 1.0 or 1.10 with the upgrade?
Yes. The first time you run the new version of Caliban Mailer, your old
CalibanMailer.mdb file will be upgraded to be compatible with the new
version. All of the
addresses, mailing lists, letter template, etc. will be unchanged.
However, the upgraded database file will not be compatible with previous
versions of
Caliban Mailer. The upgrade's install program will create a backup copy of the original
database file, called "backup_of_CalibanMailer.mdb", in the installation directory.
Is
the database 'backwards compatible'?
We have been endeavoring to allow for "backward
compatibility" by avoiding significant changes to the database
definition. However we cannot make any guarantees that new features in
upcoming versions won't cause unexpected problems in old versions.
For example, beginning with Caliban Mailer 1.30, the blank database
file distributed with the product will be password protected to prevent
unauthorized changes to the database layout. This database file
cannot be opened with earlier versions of Caliban Mailer, nor can it be
opened by other applications normally capable of reading .MDB files.
Do I have to uninstall the old version
before I install the new?
To avoid potential conflicts, it is always a
good idea to uninstall the previous version first. The database file
CalibanMailer.mdb will not be removed from your system, and can be
used with the new version of Caliban Mailer. For security purposes, your
server account information will be cleared when you uninstall Caliban
Mailer. You will have to re-enter your server account names and passwords.
Registered Users: You will have to re-enter
your 10-digit security code after you reinstall Caliban Mailer.
